Extensive Bone Marrow Necrosis in a Case of Acute Myeloid Leukemia Transformed from a Myeloproliferative Neoplasm
Extensive necrosis affecting more than 50%percnt; of the bone marrow is an extremely rare histopathological finding. Relatively little is known about its clinical significance because it is most commonly identified at autopsy - whether it is an independent prognostic marker or whether it is a surrogate marker of underlying disease burden remains unclear. We describe herein a case of a 66-year-o...
متن کاملSecondary Acute Myeloid Leukemia in a One-Year-Old Girl Diagnosed with JAK2-V617F Mutation Positive Myeloproliferative Neoplasm
Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a group of clonal disorders characterized by hyperproliferation of hematologic cell lines and have been associated with tyrosine kinase JAK2-V617F mutations. Secondary acute myeloid leukemia (sAML) is a known complication of JAK2-V617F+ MPNs and bears a poor prognosis. Although the evolution of a JAK2-V617F+ MPN to a mixed-lineage leukemia has been report...
متن کاملMyelodysplasia-Related Features of Acute Myeloid Leukemia Evolving From Philadelphia-Negative Myeloproliferative Neoplasms
Dear Editor, The WHO 2008 classification of myeloid neoplasms lists the following three diagnostic criteria for AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (MRC): AML arising from a previously diagnosed myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or MDS/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), AML with an MDS-related cytogenetic abnormality, and AML with multi-lineage dysplasia [1]. However, a history of Philadelphia...
متن کاملA case of myelodysplastic syndrome/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MDS/MPN) successfully treated with lenalidomide
Lenalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug which is used to treat patients with MDS with deletion 5q chromosomal abnormality. In 2008, WHO introduced a new disease entity called MDS/MPN. No specific treatment for MDS/MPN subtype has yet been identified. We report a patient with MDS/MPN who responded well to lenalidomide therapy.
متن کاملBleeding, thrombosis, and anticoagulation in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN): analysis from the German SAL-MPN-registry
BACKGROUND Patients with Ph-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), such as polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET), and primary myelofibrosis (PMF), are at increased risk for thrombosis/thromboembolism and major bleeding. Due to the morbidity and mortality of these events, antiplatelet and/or anticoagulant agents are commonly employed as primary and/or secondary prophylaxis...
